Porter’s Karnataka and Maharashtra Flood Relief Efforts

The floods in Maharastra and Karnataka were one of the worst of its kind in recent history. The country together witnessed heartbreaking images of several thousand people and animals stranded in their submerged houses in water-filled streets. It was a natural disaster second to none where hundreds of people and animals lost their lives and thousands were displaced.

The condition was critical in Maharashtra in the areas of Kolhapur, Satara and Sangal. Karnataka was also battling this terrible flood especially in the areas of Belagavi, Bijapur, Raichur, Kalburgi, Yadgir and Uttara Kannada. Several agencies came together to pitch in and help the distressed consisting of not only the armed forces and police but also civilians.

Mahatma Gandhi said, “Be the Change you want to See in the World”. At Porter, we believe in this saying with all our hearts. As an Organisation we believe it is our social responsibility to assist and support the people around us as much as we can! As part of this duty, we also carried out intense flood relief efforts in Maharashtra and North Karnataka to contribute to this noble cause.

It gives us some solace to say that we were able to help people in the affected areas who were in dire need of food and ration, blankets, medical supplies and other daily items. We received generous donations in terms of flood relief supplies from our employees in both our Mumbai and Bangalore offices! We teamed up with our employees, partners, and the local police to collect and distribute the flood relief items. Our teams across Maharastra and Karnataka came together and carried out relief efforts despite the incessant rains and flooded streets. We hope that our efforts helped alleviate some of the pain and suffering and bring hope to the affected people.

It is our belief that a nation can only progress if its people stand united in times of tragedy and war. This is a sacred responsibility we all should share among ourselves. We are glad we were able to play a small part in the Karnataka and Maharasthra flood relief efforts. Our biggest bonus was seeing the smiles and warmth our efforts received. There is no better feeling in the world!

We would like to thank our team members, our employees and our partners without whose help carrying out this activity would have been impossible. We would also like to take a moment to salute our Indian armed forces, police, Navy and Air force, the disaster management teams and all the NGO’s and civilians who came together to help out in this time of dire need. It is people like you who make the world a better place. We aspire to be like you and actively contribute to the change we wish to see! Isn’t real power all about empowering others?
